Jurgen Klopp has left the building…

And just like that, Jurgen Klopp’s final press conference is over…

There is no doubt you could see he was emotional, especially when talking about his relationship with the fans.

However, he managed to pull through without a tear in sight. I did think he may get going at some point, but I was wrong.

I’m sure he won’t be able to hold back on Sunday…

Klopp on relationships at other clubs

Jurgen Klopp is on form.

He has just joked that Mainz fans know him best as ‘they saw me 11 years as a player’.

The whole room bursts into laughter.

Klopp on bond with fans

Jurgen Klopp, at the AXA Training Ground:

I can’t. I try to explain why the people like me so much. I don’t understand it properly. We never really disappointed them. The club is special, the club means the world to so many people. Emails, letters, if I answer them all I’m here until 2028. I apologise. I couldn’t sort tickets for the last game, there were a lot of requests. LFC TV had me read letters yesterday. With one, I burst into tears. Football changes lives and I know that. We did that. Experience is there to learn from. Keep doing it for the next manager and you will feel the same way. We have very special supporters. The last nine years meant the world to them. I’m happy about that.

‘Anfield is a super super special place’

Jurgen Klopp on recent Anfield video:

It was a staff event, loved it. I would never go and stand in an empty stadium unless I was asked. I hope it’s not the picture of my time, being allowed, dressed up alone in the stadium! It felt strange. When do you find Anfield alone?Anfield is a super super special place because of the people. It’s a nice stadium but the people make it exceptional.

09:26

‘I did this in a special city’

Jurgen Klopp on the city of Liverpool:

I did this in a special city. The people, how they treat you when they meet you and how they describe me is the people of Liverpool. I got the keys to the city and for me it feels like responsibility. If the city needs me I am there in future.

09:25

‘I love everything about this place’

Jurgen Klopp on what the club means to him:

It’s nearly a decade of my life and super influential. I love everything about this place. I take fantastic memories with me, friendships, relationships forever. The older you get, when time slips through fingers, you go ‘my God that was quick’. I don’t feel it was quick.I really think it was the absolute opposite of a waste of time. We tried to use everything and enjoy it as much as possible. A decade is a long time but I will not forget a day in that time, I met the best people I ever met and for the best club I could have imagined.

09:23

‘We could have won less’

Jurgen Klopp reaction to if he could have won more:

I know we could have won more. But I’m fine. We could have won less.

09:21

Klopp’s favourite moments

Jurgen Klopp on his favourite moments at the club:

I’d say the best football we ever played was against Man City this season, that day we played the best we had. We had won before and played well but controlling a game v City we never did before. That’s my favourite 60 minutes. Most spectacular Barcelona, best goal Alisson, best assist Trent Alexander-Arnold, best save Alisson v Napoli, best backheel goal Sadio Mane.

09:20

Klopp on Carabao cup win

Jurgen Klopp, at the AXA Training Ground:

I said it after the game, it was my favourite final we have ever played, the circumstances we are in. We all know how people see the Carabao Cup but it that moment it was absolutely fantastic. It showed everything what this club is about. It was from a club point of view the best night in our lives because you want the kids to be involved. Everybody knew the coaches in the Academy had done really well. It was a fantastic night, I will never forget that.

09:18

Klopp on final day

Jurgen Klopp on facing Wolves:

It’s a massive challenge to sit here and pretend…I have no idea how the team meeting will be. The documentary guys asked if they could film, I said no. Someone on fire has to do the team talk, can I? Maybe yes. We need a football atmosphere, Wolves most unlucky VAR team.We had a few strange VAR decision this season but Wolves are the champions of that, wow, unbelievable.

09:15

‘I would vote for scrapping VAR’

Jurgen Klopp on VAR:

How it’s used is definitely not right, how they use it, I would vote against it. These people cannot do it properly. VAR is not the problem, you cannot change the people so I would vote for scrapping VAR.

09:14

Klopp on Matip and Thiago

Jurgen Klopp, at the AXA Training Ground:

We experienced 8 years together and everyone is super appreciative. They will all be fine and I will follow them. Joel and Thiago, I spoke with this week. Joel, ever seen a better free transfer? No-one is more likable, wonderful man. Whoever gets him is a lucky club.Thiago, a world-class player. In a different world I would love to see the career without injuries, he can do things I didn’t think was possible. In control of everything but the body didn’t play its part. I told them both thank you. Whoever is leaving are all brilliant.

09:12

‘John Actherberg is joining Steven Gerrard’

Jurgen Klopp on staff leaving the club:

Pep (Ljinders) and Vitor (Matos) have a bright future, the most influential coaches I’ve ever had, we created a style of play that I love. Great choice, really lucky for us that they have been really good at Liverpool.John Actherberg is joining Steven Gerrard [at Al-Ettifaq]. Good luck with that. Jack Robinson, fantastic goalie coach. Kornmayer, future is bright, CVs, Bayern, LFC…So many people but it is normal. It’s a new start, that’s fine.

09:10

‘The most intense week of my life’

Jurgen Klopp, at the AXA Training Ground:

The most intense week of my life. Great moments already, we don’t have to pretend it’s a normal week because it isn’t. I’m a very pragmatic person I have been saying it’s last game and then holidays, business as usual. We had a barbecue here yesterday with the players. The day before with the staff from Chapel St. It’s a lot. Saying goodbye is never nice. But saying goodbye without feeling sad would mean the time we spent together wasn’t great.

09:08

Klopp has arrived

Here he is and there are laughs in the press room as he sits down.

Quotes incoming!

Jurgen Klopp has yet to arrive…

The Liverpool boss has been late for his last three press conference now, but he made it clear last time what he thinks about it.

I’m sure he feels exactly the same today, I wonder what he will say when he walks into the room?

Once this starts, he could be sat there for a while.

Memorable Klopp moments: Manager runs onto pitch celebrating last min winner v Everton

How could anybody forget this?

After I pressed send on the question about Jurgen Klopp’s best memories, my mind went straight to this moment.

As soon as Divock Origi’s header hit the back of the net in the 96th minute of the Merseyside Derby in December 2018, Klopp was off.

I have never seen a manager run so fast in my life. He was like Usain Bolt in his prime.

He did get fined for the ordeal, and I remember it upsetting many rival fans, but I’m sure it’s a moment Liverpool fans cherish.

Jurgen Klopp: Thiago ‘a talent who could play in any team’

Jurgen Klopp, speaking about Thiago to the Liverpool website:

Before he even came to Liverpool I believed that if you really love football it would make a lot of sense if you watched Thiago Alcantara play. Technically, he is so, so good. A talent who could play in any team in the world and it was a privilege to have him with us.I already knew a lot about him as a footballer before he got here – what he did at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, how could you not? – and I could not have been happier when he decided to take on a new challenge with us.From that point on I got to see him up close and all I can say is ‘Wow’. Most importantly, he was part of a new story and helped us develop as a team because of his special qualities.I know injuries have been a frustration for him and also for us but the level that he was able to play at when he was available was incredible. This is what I will remember.

Breaking:Thiago to leave Liverpool

It’s all happening this morning!

First Joel Matip, now Thiago Alcantara. It’s all change at Liverpool this summer.

The Spanish midfielder will leave the Reds at the end of the season after four years at the club.

I mean, after only making on substitute appearance all campaign due to injury, fans would be forgiven for forgetting Thiago still played for the club.

However, when he was on it, boy oh boy was he a joy to watch.
