British man becomes first person to run the length of Africa

Russ Cook, from Worthing, West Sussex, has become the first person to run the full length of Africa after crossing the finish line in Tunisia on Sunday.

Mr Cook set off from South Africa’s most southerly point on 22 April 2023 and he reached Tunisia’s most northerly point in Ras Angela at about 4.40pm, covering more than 16,000km across 352 days.

After crossing the finish line, the 27-year-old, nicknamed Hardest Geezer, was greeted with shouts and cheers from those who had flown out to meet him, with many chanting “Geezer”.
