England 2-1 Slovakia AET – Euro 2024 LIVE: Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane save Three Lions’ blushes to set up quarter-final date with Switzerland after tournament favourites were ONE MINUTE away from embarrassing exit

Bellingham hits back at ‘rubbish’

England’s players have been outspoken at hitting back at the criticism they’ve faced in this tournament, and Jude Bellingham has done so again tonight.

Speaking after the game, the Real Madrid star – and England’s saviour against Slovakia – spoke about the pressures of playing for the Three Lions and the scrutiny he feels they are under.

Listen to his full thoughts below…

‘Lucky’ England have to make major changes – Neville

As England’s players celebrated with their fans at full-time while Sweet Caroline was pumping out at the AufSchalke Arena, it brought back memories of greater days and performances for the Three Lions.

But Gary Neville, working for ITV, said that despite the relief and festivities on the pitch, Gareth Southgate now must make major changes if England are going to win Euro 2024.

Here’s what he had to say:

Sweet Caroline doesn’t sound very sweet. I mean relief is the word of the game. We’ve been very very lucky and we should thank our lucky stars, look up there and thank everything because we were woeful. We’ve been woeful now for four games and not even extra-time we played particularly well, we sort of drew Slovakia onto us, they were unlucky at the end. We’ve got to change something dramatically now. I’m happy for Gareth. We all know him in the studio, he’s a great guy, got massive integrity but he will realise tonight that he was so close to the edge. Very close to the edge.

19:26

Over-celebration or fair enough?

This one is likely to divide the celebration police but both Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham copied each other’s trademark celebrations after they scored against Slovakia.

Some may say that’s a bit much after the Three Lions narrowly edged past a team ranked 45th in the world.

But, for others, they will view it as completely justified and a natural reaction to such a dramatic comeback.

Let us know what you think in the comments!

Pandemonium in the ITV studio

Jude Bellingham’s tournament-saving equaliser against Slovakia on Sunday sparked wild celebrations among England fans in Germany and back home.

The Three Lions were seconds away from exiting Euro 2024 in the round of 16 before Jude Bellingham delivered a stunning overhead kick deep into added time.

Harry Kane later netted in extra time as England went on to win 2-1 and book a quarter-final clash with Switzerland next weekend.

Ian Wright and Gary Neville were on punditry duty for ITV and their hilarious celebrations after Bellingham’s strike can be seen in all of their glory below…

Gary Neville screams ‘WE’RE NOT GOING HOME’ after Jude Bellingham goal

Footage of Neville and Wright’s reaction to Bellingham’s goal was shared by ITV via social media and it is fair to say that they enjoyed it as much as any other England fan.

Relief for Southgate

What a rollercoaster of emotions that must have been for Gareth Southgate.

He was staring down the barrel at the potential end of his England tenure deep into injury time, before Jude Bellingham’s stunning bicycle kick not only saved the Three Lions’ Euros hopes, but also Southgate’s job.

Job done with the win, I guess, but he’ll have plenty to ponder ahead of the quarter-final stage.

Harry Kane: ‘We will do whatever it takes!

The England captain, speaking to ITV after the game, said:

[Bellingham’s goal] One of the best in our country’s history I reckon. What a player he is. He works so hard for the team. There’s been a lot of talk about him in the last couple of days but he shows what he can do. In the big moments he steps up and that’s what we need, we need everyone to step up in moments. We know we will do whatever it takes. (If) We have another game like this in the quarter-finals then so be it. This team knows how to dig deep, that’s exactly what we done today. Of course we could have been better, we could have played better but ultimately it’s a results business and that’s what we care about. We can enjoy this, we can enjoy the comeback and hopefully take that moment into the rest of the tournament.

19:03

Enjoy that one, ladies?

If you thought it was nervy watching that match from home, just imagine watching it in the stadium – and your partner is playing in the game!

That was the case for the Aine May Kennedy – girlfriend of England’s Conor Gallagher – who looked more than relieved at the full-time whistle.

Sat among fellow friends and family of the squad, Kennedy cheered throughout as the Three Lions battled back from behind.

Post-match stats: England get deserved win after dominating Slovakia

Two shots on target. Two goals.

That’s all Gareth Southgate’s side needed to secure a place in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, as they edged past Slovakia.

With 63 percent possession and 330 passes more than their opponents, England were well-deserved of their victory.

England make history with record-breaking goals in Gelsenkirchen

Now that we’ve managed to catch our breath, let’s look at those goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane.

Bellingham’s overhead-kick equaliser was England’s latest scored in normal time at the Euros (94:34),

While Harry Kane’s goal to put England in front was the quickest extra-time goal in the competition’s history (50 seconds).

In doing so, England have now reached the quarter-finals in consecutive European Championships for the first time ever.

WATCH: Declan Rice clashes with Slovakia manager after full-time

As England got their celebrations underway inside the Veltins Arena, Declan Rice was seen in an altercation with Slovakia coach Francesco Calzona.

Calzona appeared to be upset about something and wanted to remonstate with officials before Rice intervened.

The Slovakia boss then pushed England’s midfielder, who looked less than impressed with Calzona’s actions.

FULL-TIME: England 2-1 Slovakia

It’s all over, England have reached the Euro 2024 quarter-finals!

That was an absolute rollercoaster of emotion since the moment Ivan Schranz put Slovakia ahead in the 25th minute until Harry Kane’s header in extra-time.

Sandwiched in-between those goals was Jude Bellingham’s stunning bicycle kick in the final moments of regular time – which we’ll be seeing replays of for years to come.

There might still be some lingering questions over England’s tactics but nothing can be said about their grit, desire and passion.

A simply remarkable comeback.

Everyone is behind the ball for England now, as they look to grind out this win.

For everything that’s been said about their grit and desire, the Three Lions have responded brilliantly – especially the substitutes.

Some of these players hadn’t even stepped on the pitch at Euro 2024 before tonight, but you wouldn’t be able to tell.

England 2-1 Slovakia: Nervy times for the Three Lions

Since the break, England are certainly set-up to sit back and see this one out – however Slovakia haven’t given up hope.

Francesco Calzona’s side are now pressing high up the pitch and pumping balls into the box to ask questions of the Three Lions defence.

So far, they’ve had all the answers but will that last until the end?

SECOND-HALF OF EXTRA-TIME: England 2-1 Slovakia

We’re back underway. England have made two changes: Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have been replaced by Conor Gallagher and Ezri Konsa.

Mail Sport’s Aadam Patel, inside the Veltins Arena, has reflected on the first-half of extra-time.

I think most people inside the ground here are speechless. Credit where it’s due because they’ve found a way when for all the world, this game looked like it was done
