Man City vs West Ham, Arsenal vs Everton – Premier League final day: Live scores, team news and updates as Pep Guardiola’s side can secure title with a win

20 years on, can Arsenal do it again?

It’s been 20 years since Arsenal last got their hands on the Premier League title.

They have had their ups and their downs since then, but this current crop of players have the chance to go down as Gunners greats today.

Their destiny may not be in their own hands, but it’s not over until it’s over.

I’m sure some of ‘The Invincibles’ in the photo will be in attendance today.

Premier League Player of the Season: Phil Foden

Phil Foden, what a star he has become.

There has been a positive buzz around the Manchester City camp in the last week.

First, they beat Tottenham to come within touching distance of the title, and then the magical maestro Foden was crowned Premier League Player of the Season.

It’s richly deserved too, he has been spellbinding throughout the season. Scoring and providing goals left, right, and centre.

Can he finish his best individual campaign yet with a bang?

They’ve been here before…

History is certainly on the side of Manchester City.

As has been previously mentioned, they know what they are doing, this is not their first rodeo.

City have been involved in the last four title deciders in 2012, 2014, 2019, and 2022. They won all four of them.

Liverpool fans know what it’s like to be in Arsenal’s position, they were on the painful end of the last three.

The hopes will be high on the blue side of Manchester.

Pep Guardiola: ‘We have to live it and enjoy it’

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City boss, speaking on Friday:

Everybody knows what we are playing for. None of us will get the chance to win four in a row again, it is impossible. It won’t happen again in our life. We have to live it and enjoy it.That’s wrong (we are not unbeatable). (Look at) the margins. If every season we won by 20 points I’d say yes, I’m a genius, I’m so good, but it’s not (like that). The Premier Leagues we won against Liverpool, they could have won. Arsenal could win.

Mikel Arteta: ‘I’m very optimistic’

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, speaking on Friday:

It’s one of the biggest weeks for many of us, and certainly now is the most important moment. I’m really excited and can’t wait for Sunday to be in front of us, and I’m very optimistic with the possible outcome. We are in the last day of the season playing for the Premier League. The Premier League trophy hasn’t been at Emirates Stadium and that was built almost 20 years ago, so that’s a long, long time. So yes, we have to be very optimistic. We have to do our duties, and then we have to wait and see what happens. We have to do our job which is going to be tough because Everton are in a really good moment, so we’re going have to prove again that we can be better than the opponent and win the game. Then we have to wish for the best and for West Ham to have a really good day and help us to fulfil our dream.

How it stands going into the final day

37 games have passed and only two points separate the sides.

It’s plain and simple. Manchester City win, they are the Champions.

However, if they draw, and Arsenal win, the Gunners will be champions on goal difference.

If Arsenal fail to beat Everton, regardless of anything that happens at the Etihad, they will finish in second place.

As long as the goals are flying in, the standings can keep on changing.

12:09

Gunners waiting in the wings to pounce

Arsenal are in no shape out of this title race.

There is a reason it has gone to the final day, that is because Mikel Arteta’s side have not allowed Manchester City a second to breathe.

All they can do is get the job done at home to Everton today and hope that their fellow Londoners do them a favour.

Just like in midweek, though, I’m not particularly sure the Hammers fans want to help them out.

Anything is possible in the Premier League…

12:04

City at home to the Hammers

One more win, that is all Manchester City need.

They have been here before, they know what it takes. They have won it on the final day with ease, and with hardship, but it is always the same result.

West Ham are standing in the way of a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

No team has ever won four on the bounce, not even Sir Alex Ferguson’s great Manchester United teams of the past.

City love to create history, is more inbound today?

It all comes down to this…

Nine months, 37 games, ecstasy, agony, and every other emotion you can think of. It all comes down to today – the final day.

Manchester City and Arsenal have gone hammer and tong all season in a bid to get their hands on the Premier League title. One of them will be lifting it in just a few hours.

City are in pole position, they lead the Gunners by two points as they hunt down a record fourth consecutive league title. All they need to do is beat West Ham, and it’s theirs.

Any slip-up from Pep Guardiola’s men, though, and Arsenal will be ready to pounce. They face Everton at the Emirates.

Strap yourselves in everyone, it’s going to be a bumpy ride… and I can’t wait for it to get underway.

Let’s get this show on the road!
